New to Orienteering?
Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport which involves navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass.
The aim is to navigate between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.
It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can go at your own pace.

We would love you to consider joining our orienteering club! ESOC is a friendly and very active club, which organises a range of orienteering events in Edinburgh and surrounding areas. We have around 300 members of all ages and abilities and you will be made very welcome.

Scottish Middle Champs + SOL 2, 2024Hill of Alyth & Balfour, 21-22 April
A double weekend saw relieved Scottish orienteers returning to home terrain with such comments as "my O shoes are now clean of mud from the British" and "proper technical orienteering". At Saturday's Middle Championships event, ESOC runners achieved some great results including 2 Golds, 3 Silvers, and 4 Bronzes.
April Social 2024Edinburgh, New Town, Tuesday, 16th April
Matt Ball writes:
It was a lovely evening and perfect for running in North Edinburgh (I discovered it was pouring with rain in south Edinburgh on my cycle home!) for the April social. People could again choose between an orienteering and a TURF event. For those of us orienteering we started off the evening outside the The Cumberland Bar in the New Town.
British Orienteering Championships 2024Mulgrave Woods, 13-14 April
ESOC turned mud and brambles into Gold and Silver at the 2024 BOC Individual, anointing Eleanor W80 British Champion and Janice Nisbet W70 runner-up, with prizes awarded by BOF President Steve Cram! Next day, Helen Bridle ran a spectacular first leg in the Women's Premier relay to come back over 3 minutes in the lead, but it was EUOC who finally came through to take the win with Rachel Brown running alongside her uni teammates Fiona Bunn and Isobel Howard. Others were less fortunate, culminating in an unreasonably vicious tree stump giving the ESOC team captain a black eye.

JK 2024Loughboro Uni / Cannock / Stanton Moor, 29 Mar - 1 Apr
An East Midlands + West Midlands collaboration for the 2024 JK saw our ESOC contingent dotting between fast and furious university campus sprinting to the mudbaths of Beaudesert for a physical Middle & Long, and finally back to the drizzly but highly enjoyable moors and mines of the Peak District for the relay finale. Standout results were the double sprint Gold for M/W80 power couple Ian & Eleanor Pyrah, and a first ESOC JK relay medal in some years with a Bronze in the Women's Veteran (W165+) class for the team of Alison Harding (W60), Mary Williams (W70) and Alison O'Neil (W35).
