ESOC Permanent Course Challenge
In a recent issue of Capital-O, Katy Lessells issued a challenge to us all, for training on balmy summer evenings or idle weekends when there are no orienteering events. The challenge is to complete an ESOC permanent course as a score event - how long does it take you to visit all the control sites?
ESOC now has 8 permanent courses: Glentress, Corstorphine Hill, Bonaly, Hillend, Castlelaw, Blackford Hill, Cammo and Hopetoun House. More details (for most of them) are available on the Permanent courses tab, above.
Some areas will be easier than others, but each will present an interesting challenge. Send in your times to Katy (her contact details are on the ESOC membership list, or ask any committee member), stating which area you visited. It may be possible to do the Glentress course on a bike, rather than on foot, but please state which you used! Subject to sufficient results being received, a league table will be published in Capital-O, and small prizes are promised at the end of the year.
Map packs of the areas cost £1.50 each, or you can buy the whole set at a special member’s discount for £11. They can be obtained from Janet Clark at any event, or by sending a cheque (payable to ESOC) to Janet – her contact details are in Capital-O and on the Permanent courses tab.
Why not take up the challenge and give it a go?
