Organiser’s comments from Fiona Findlay
What a difference a week makes. It was lovely sitting on my chair, chatting to others, watching the hillside, waiting for the first person to appear, waiting for the last person to appear. Not so good for all those competing in the long O. It was much warmer than we are used to orienteering in this country and with the terrain in the middle section being tough going the sensible option for many was to cut short their run. I was surprised by how little water some took out with them after being warned there was none/little on the hill. The sun shone all day, the cows stayed away, everyone did get back safely, all the controls were collected in, the money balanced and Harry took the toilet away to deal with (thank you!). As organiser, what else could I ask for? Thank you all for coming. I hoped you enjoyed the experience but must apologise to the runners affected when a control was taken in too soon.
