Controller Comments
The turnout for the event was perhaps marginally lower than expected considering the very good weather on the day.
However, it was good to see the event running so smoothly and afterwards to overhear nothing but positive comment from those that took part.
Controlling for a Score on an area like this was an interesting experience considering the unique and in some places dangerous features of Holyrood Park. Trying to consider competitor safety for ‘umpteen’ route choices yet retain an interesting and challenging ‘course’ created plenty of debate between event officials. However whilst out wandering about during the event, it appeared to me that the few ‘choice’ controls that had been placed to encourage safe routes seemed to be doing their job.
I’d certainly encourage all those who took part to put their route into route gadget. Besides helping to satisfy my curiosity this would also give more people a chance to see where they went (right or wrong) compared to others.
Thanks to Crawford, Janet and all the helpers on the day, for putting on an efficient and enjoyable event.
