Labyrinth O Social - 6th October
What a fantastic event!
This has been on the cards for a while after seeing various ‘labyrinth’ or ultra-sprint orienteering events. The idea is simple, 3 courses run in a random order all within a 20m by 20m maze. The Nolan family had laid out the maze before the event and put out the SI units to allow for the accurate timing and course checking.
The event itself was amazing to see, with up to 25 people in the maze at any one time, headlamps and people everywhere, it was chaotic! Lots of running, lots of confusion! The results show that most people improved over the course of the 3 races as they got used to the maze and found quick ways of getting from one corner of the area to the other.
The courses proved to be very testing and the number of mispunches shows this, you had to have your wits about you to keep on top of things and make sure you punched the correct control!
Winners:
Male - Andrew Dalgleish
Female - Katherine Kirk
Junior Male - Andrew Lindsay
Junior Female - Rosalyn Old (a relative newcomer to the sport!)
With a special mention for Daniel Johnston who was 5th overall and the yongest competitor there.
Thanks to the Nolans for planning and hosting the social.
