Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport which involves navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass. The aim is to navigate between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can go at your own pace.
We would love you to consider joining our orienteering club! ESOC is a friendly and very active club, which organises a range of orienteering events in Edinburgh and surrounding areas. We have around 300 members of all ages and abilities and you will be made very welcome.
“It was a chilly evening when ESOC members gathered outside the Commonwealth Pool, looking enviously at the warm interior. However Sabine soon made us forget that as she explained the event we were about to do - it seemed complicated! Everyone gathered in teams of two or three and we had an hour to collect up to 28 controls.
ESOC’s Burns Night festivities featured a score orienteering activity in and around the Burdiehouse Burn, Liberton, followed by the legendary ESOC Burns supper. Eleanor Pyrah (planner of the orienteering) sent this report.
We organise a regular programme of local orienteering events, regular junior coaching sessions, weekly club training for members and also club socials. In addition, we organise larger orienteering events at regional and national level, some of which are further afield in Scotland. Why not come and join us?
