INTrepid weekend - 2018

Livingston, 3/4 November

Since Livingston's so near, ESOC turned out in force for both events of Interløpers' 2018 INTrepid weekend.

SOUL 10, on Saturday 3 November, was an urban race in the Eliburn and Peel areas of Livingston, with the event centre at Deans Community High School. The start and finish were 1.2km to the south in Eliburn Park, near a fishing lake. The courses ran through modern residential estates and areas of parkland, criss-crossed by paths and cycle routes with underpasses at major roads. Mostly the running was on hard surfaces or grass, but some paths in the parkland were quite muddy. The threatened rain held off, though it was dull, and it was very mild.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
  M Open (12 competitors) – Richard Purkis 1st, Duncan Robertson 5th, Ben Brown 6th
  W Open (10) – Laura Robertson 1st
  W Vet (14) – Heather Thomson 1st, Katherine Kirk 5th
  M Supervet (18) – Keith Brown 1st, Crawford Lindsay 5th
  W SuperVet (10) – Alison Cunningham 1st

Scottish Orienteering Urban League details, including the final league tables, are on the SOUL page of the Scottish Orienteering Association website.

SoSOL 7 was on Sunday 4 November at Dechmont Law, on the north side of Livingston beside the M8. Parking and registration were north of the motorway, with a short walk to the start and finish, over a footbridge. The terrain is a mix of rough open grassland and woods (coniferous plantation and also deciduous woodland) around the Law, which is a small steep-sided hill. There’s an extensive network of paths and tracks, and it was quite wet underfoot in places. The weather was sunny and very pleasant.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
  Brown (20 competitors) – Duncan Robertson 3rd , Jonathan Ellis 8th, Ben Brown 10th
  Blue (44) – Keith Brown 2nd, Peter O’Hara 9th, Jim Martin 10th , Alistair Hindle 13th, Mark Wood 18th, Gill Martin 20th
