JK Sprint : ESOC Success!

A long way from home, in deepest darkest England, a small band of intrepid ESOC members are taking part in the annual Easter weekend competition, the Jan Kjellström festival of Orienteering, or ‘JK’ as it is better known.  Today saw the Sprint race, held at Bicton College in Devon, South West England.  The area is a mix of your typical ‘urban’ college but set in a rural location.

There were some very strong ESOC results today, most notably Rona Lindsay, in the W16 class and Eleanor Pyrah in the W65 class.  Rona won W16 by 22 seconds, a fairly big gap over the short distance of 2.3km, beating many (friendly) rivals who are members of the national ‘World Class Talent Squad’, take note Selectors!  Eleanor’s margin of victory was much smaller at only 9 seconds, but an equally rewarding victory nonetheless.  Both Rona and Eleanor were in the mix at the JK last year, so will be especially pleased to step it up a notch this year and take the victories.

Other ‘top-half’ results include:

Jamie Fawthrop, 9th in M12
Andrew Lindsay, 17th in M16
Roger Scrutton, 6th in M60
Dave Kershaw, 18th in M60
Helen Bridle, 10th in W21E
Helena Nolan, 6th in W40
Sally Lindsay, 21st in W50
Janice Nisbet, 5th in W55
Mary Williams, 7th in W55

Hopefully this is the start of a whole host of successes over the weekend, good luck to everyone over the next 3 days of competition!
