August Social 2013 - Manor Valley RunMonday 12 August
Report from the August social
The August social was held on the second Monday of the month, to give everyone some breathing space after Moray 2013. About 25 people assembled at Roger and Claire Garnett’s home in the Manor Valley, south of Peebles, on a beautiful evening. After the usual protracted preparations, groups set off on various walks and runs, following circular routes according to their inclination and fitness. The longest (running) was nearly 10km, and went up through forest onto Whitelaw Hill, then followed the ridge northwards; the shortest (walking) was less than 3km, taking a more direct route to a minor top on the same ridge, and there were several other variations on this theme. All were rewarded by wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the Tweed valley in the golden evening sunshine. The going was easy, mostly on grassy slopes with many sheep tracks, and it was pleasantly dry underfoot.
Returning to the house, everyone enjoyed a splendid spread of food, with plenty for all, and much entertaining conversation.
Thanks to Roger and Claire for their friendly hospitality.
