ESOC at the 2012 London City Race22 September

Just 4 ESOC members competed at the 5th London City race, which was reported to be as good as usual.

This year’s London City Race covered the western part of the City of London, plus parts of Westminster, Camden and Islington boroughs. The race assembly was based at King’s College London Students Union. Courses took competitors through the courtyards of the Inner & Middle Temple, then into the streets and alleyways of the City of London, and the longer courses visited the infamous multi-level walkways in the Barbican Estate and Guildhall. Runners then navigated through Bloomsbury, across Fleet Street and back down to the River Thames to the finish line on Victoria Embankment.

There were around 1200 competitors, including nearly 300 from overseas. The weather was cold but sunny.

ESOC results were as follows:
Women’s Supervet (87 competitors) – Janice Nisbet 7th
Men’s Ultravet (135) – Dave Kershaw 19th=, Brian Yates 103rd
Women’s Ultravet (67) – Kirsteen Kershaw 44th
Stephen Kershaw (M21), Dave & Kirsteen’s son, came 52nd out of 130 on the Men’s Open course.

See the London City Race website for full results and other information, including Routegadget and photos.

The next day saw the Southern Championships take place in Epping Forest, on a miserably wet day. Janice Nisbet came 3rd in W55L, Dave Kershaw came 17th in M60L, and Brian Yates came 29th in M65L.

Full results and other details are on the Chigwell & Epping Forest Orienteering Club website.
