ESOC at the Venla/JukolaVantaa, 16/17 June 2012
3 ESOC members competed at this year’s Venla and Jukola in Finland.
This is the biggest orienteering relay in the World, held annually in Finland. The Venla is a women’s race, for teams of 4 during the Saturday afternoon, followed by the Jukola, for teams of 7, overnight. This year there were around 1300 teams in the Venla and 1600 in the Jukola.
Rona Lindsay ran 1st leg for EUOC at the Venla, with a start number of 667. She handed over to Isla Simmons in 203rd place, then Jo Shepherd and Kirstin Maxwell ran 3rd and 4th legs, to bring the team in at 154th, the first GB team to finish. The weather was hot.
Andrew Lindsay ran 1st leg for EUOC & friends (from Interløpers) at the Jukola, with start number 958. He finished in 511th place, handing over to Ken Daly, who was followed by Simon Gardner, Jo Shepherd, Peter Gardner, Paul Caban and Jack Baker. They finished in 646th place. Jo Stevenson ran 1st leg for the Södertälje 4th team, who came 456th overall. The weather was drizzly to begin with, improved later and then was very wet.
