Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

ESOC QuadrupleH Challenge, November 2020Saturday 21st November to Sunday 29th November 2020

The QuadrupleH Challenge is here!

ITEM UPDATED: Sunday 15th November

The ESOC QuadrupleH Challenge November 2020 will help us to forget the disappointment of the postponed Scottish Score at Dalkeith.

It will comprise MapRunF courses at Hillend, Harlaw Reservoir, Hailes Quarry Park and Hay Lodge Park in Peebles, so featuring three brand new maps and two areas never before used for orienteering. Take part at as many areas as you can get to (within travel restrictions current at the time) over the nine days Saturday 21st November to Sunday 29th.

The reason we are having four areas is to make it possible for more of our members (and those of other clubs) to be able to access at least one of them given the current travel restrictions between Local Authority areas. Harlaw and Hailes Quarry are in Edinburgh , Hillend in Midlothian and Hay Lodge in the Borders. (Apologies to a few ESOC members who don't live in any of these areas).

AREA LOCATIONS

Hillend: EH10 7DY. Midlothian. Start from upper Ski Slope car park.
Harlaw Reservoir: EH14 7AS. Edinburgh. This car park is often full by 9.30, especially at weekends.
Hailes Quarry Park: EH14 2AB. Edinburgh. Dumbryden Road, Longstone.
Hay Lodge Park:EH45 8JE. Peebles, Borders.

This is different from our previous Challenges in that it is offered primarily as an opportunity to showcase some of our new maps. There will be no collated results and no necessity to record any data for Test and Protect. It is for fun and interest, not an orienteering competition!

Course will be available on MapRun F and on the SOA website from mid-day on Thursday 19th November.

THE CHALLENGE: This is a photo challenge. Please submit photos taken at any of the 4H locations between 21-29 November (inclusive) under any of the following categories:

- Wildlife
- Water
- Sun or Moon
- Dressed for the occasion

To enter for the awards please post pictures on Social media or email to email hidden; JavaScript is required All photos posted/submitted may then be used on Social media by the club. Please advise which category you are entering for (just in case it isn’t obvious!!)

FINALLY: If you have enjoyed these lovely new maps, and would like to make a contribution to their cost , ESOC would welcome the donation of an amount of your choice to:

COVID ISSUES
Please do not go to any of the areas if you or any of your household are feeling unwell (particularly with the Covid-19 symptoms of fever, new cough, loss of taste/smell), are self-isolating, in quarantine or are travelling from an area in Local Lockdown.

It is your responsibility to abide by all the Scottish Government COVID guidelines prevailing at the time you choose to run. Please:
- Be considerate to all other park users
- Maintain 2m social distancing at all times and be especially aware on narrow tracks, blind corners and around the control sites (waiting your turn if necessary)
- Avoid the temptation to gather with any other orienteers you encounter (as per the Rule of 6)
- Bring your own PPE as required for your comfort (eg masks if busy and hand sanitiser as there are some gates).
- If you take your dog keep them under very close control and do not allow them to approach anyone.
You should also read and abide by the BOF Code of Conduct
