Jamie Stevenson Trophy 2024The Hermitage (Dunkeld), 16 June
Sunday saw the 2024 edition of the annual junior inter-club competition, with a crack squad of 13 ESOC juniors (lucky for some!) venturing into the forests of Dunkeld, claiming a Bronze medal and in our biased opinion the smartest team turnout with ESOC kit and war paint on point!
The competition started with a parade in which all club delegations fly their respective flags, followed by a group warm-up, and finally the competition got underway.
Overall ESOC came an excellent 4th out of 11 participating clubs. Individual ESOC placings were as listed below. Full results can be viewed in the FVO results archive. Importantly, Keith Brown flew the flag for ESOC in the "parents' competition", coming 4th parent after a trio of FVO dads (but behind the majority of the juniors :D).
- Yellow - girls: Ivy Naylor 7th
- Orange - girls: Emma Daley 3rd, Ursula MacColl 8th, Amy Brodie 10th
- Light Green - boys: Ewan Arnold 5th, William Atkinson 7th
- Green - girls: Megan Brown 9th, Alexis Gow 12th
- Green - boys: Calum Robertson 7th, Jamie Crawford 12th
Many of the juniors were tackling courses at higher technical difficulty than they had previously practised. Very well done to everyone who persevered, especially to Ivy Naylor for whom this was her first independent (unshadowed) Yellow course. Honourable mentions go to Lucy Sneddon, Bronwyn Vernon and Rebecca Daley for whom discretion was the better part of valour. Hopefully everyone gained valuable experience and has whet their appetite to go orienteering to forests in deeper Scotland in the future.
