JK Relay

The JK relays were held today on the highly technical sand dune area of Braunton Burrows, the same place as the individual race yesterday which saw some excellent results from ESOC members, all of whom were hoping to do the same today!

A small entry from ESOC meant only a few teams were taking part. The strongest of these teams was definitely our Women’s trophy team, consisting of W21E star Helen Bridle, W16 Rona Lindsay and W40 Helena Nolan. Helen gave the team the best possible start coming back in first place with a few minutes cushion from the ‘main contenders’, exactly the position Rona wanted to be in to challenge her ability to navigate under the pressure of knowing the top runners in the country are right behind you. Not only did she have an excellent run but she held them all off, coming back in 1st position! No mean feat with such a good field of elite runners. Helena knew she would have her work cut out on the final leg, with other teams generally putting their strongest runner on this leg, she had a fantastic run too, allowing only 5 runners to pass her. 3 of the 5 are (or were) regulars in the GB team and the other 2 are in the GB junior squad! I’m sure all 3 are extremely pleased with such a high position, well done ladies.

Hopefully all our members who headed to the JK will have a tale or two to tell, well done to all over the weekend!
