May Social 2013 - Hash RunWednesday 15 May 2013
Another fantastic hash run prepared for us by our hash run expert, Ian Jackson.
Ian Jackson very kindly agreed (yet again) to organise a hash for us and this year we sent him to investigate the path network in the Penicuik area with Norma and Peter Coutts’ home providing the ‘hub’ for the event. Ian was delighted with the area and quite excited about the possibilities of false trails and checking points and back checking - as only an experienced hash-setter (or hare) possibly could be!
Two courses were set – one for power walkers (who perhaps had to keep their most excited hound – Ben – on a fairly short lead!) and the other for ‘runners’; both courses to take about an hour to complete. The ‘catering for all’ aspect of hashing is fabulous – just take a rest at the ‘checking circle’ or run around looking for the next part of the trail – everyone happy! The heavy rain showers which Ian had endured throughout the day stayed off for most of the hash with only one heavy downpour which was followed by a most amazing rainbow. Not too muddy and a few wee ‘river’ crossings; housing areas with good path networks; slippery banks and plenty of nettley urban scrubland – lots of fun!
And so back to the Coutts’ for lots of chat and good food and the usual opportunity to find out what is going on in everybody’s orienteering world and to find yourself agreeing to help at some other event...
Many, many thanks to Ian for a super hash and to Norma and Peter for hosting the event and for providing such a lovely spread of food. On, on... until the next one!
