Scottish Score Championships 2019Faskally & Pitlochry, 1 September
A sizeable contingent from ESOC enjoyed this year’s Scottish Score Championships, organised by STAG, and won several trophies.
The 2019 Scottish Score Championships event was at Faskally Woods, on the NW side of Pitlochry, with a new map extension into the western part of Pitlochry too. The controller was Ian Pyrah, and the Brown family looked after the computing. Faskally is a small area but has lots of variety. The terrain is mixed woodland, quite hilly, with some intricate contours and rock features, an attractive loch, and a network of paths and tracks. Controls were scattered throughout the area, including a few on the east side of the A9, though most competitors restricted themselves to the woods. The start was in the centre of the woods, with a longish approach walk from the car parks in the town centre. Registration, download and the prizegiving were at the Pitlochry Scout Hut, at the other end of the town, where there was much socialising and discussion of route choice.
The weather was fine, mostly sunny, with a few showers late in the day as people were leaving.
There were time limits of 70 minutes for M20-35 and W21, 40 minutes for M/W14 and below, and 60 minutes for everyone else.
The ESOC trophy winners were:
Ben Brown (M18)
Rachel Brown (W16)
Sally Lindsay (W60)
Eleanor Pyrah (W75)
Maja Robertson (W14)
