Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOL 1, 2017Mugdock Country Park, 5 March

The first event in this year’s Scottish Orienteering League was presented by Clydeside Orienteers, and had a good ESOC attendance.

Mugdock Country Park is just north of Milngavie, NW of Glasgow. The event was based at the visitor centre, which had a welcome café. There were 2 starts, around 1.5km to the south, and some courses had a remote finish too. The area includes managed country park, woodland and moorland with some intricate terrain, and a good path network throughout. There were extensive boggy areas, which were very wet underfoot following recent rain. Most courses had a fairly high density of controls, visiting a wide variety of features.
The day started wet, with some heavy showers, but brightened up to a sunny spring afternoon.

ESOC results in the top half for their course were:
Brown (36 competitors) - Walter Clark 17th
Blue (53) - Laura Robertson 8th, Keith Brown 13th, Crawford Lindsay 24th
Short Blue (45) - Alison Cunningham 5th, Finlay Ross 13th
Green (46) - Mike Stewart 6th, Ben Brown 10th, Roger Scrutton 12th, Maggie Scrugham 13th, Alastair Lessells 14th, Ian Pyrah 19th, Sally Lindsay 20th
Short Green (34) - Margaret Dalgleish 1st, Anne Stevenson 3rd, Eleanor Pyrah 5th, Heidi Ross 6th, Mary Williams 8th, Fiona Findlay 9th, Jim Clark 15th, Janet Clark 17th
