SOL 1, 2018Auchingarrich, 25 March
The first event of 2018’s Scottish Orienteering League was part of the Scottish Spring weekend, and saw a good turnout from ESOC.
Auchingarrich is near Comrie, in Perthshire. It’s a hilly area with a lot of green on the map - many people remembered it from previous events, and found it more runnable (and hence more enjoyable) than it used to be, because the forest has matured over the years. There’s a network of rides and other ways through the forest, sometimes rather confusing, and it was generally wet underfoot. The event centre was at Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre, with a café and many other distractions to entertain everyone after their run. The weather was fine, though cool.
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Short Brown (35 competitors) – Jim Martin 7th, Tyler Morrison 17th
Blue (63) – Keith Brown 30th, Mark Wood 31st, Gill Martin 32nd
Short Blue (41) – Alison Cunningham 1st, Mike Stewart 4th, Helena Nolan 7th, Kerry Wood 16th, Finlay Ross 18th
Green (54) – Rachel Brown 3rd, Maggie Scrugham 13th, Alastair Lessells 19th, Roger Scrutton 20th, Sally Lindsay 26th
Short Green (51) – Margaret Dalgleish 1st, Janice Nisbet 2nd, Mary Williams 4th, Fiona Findlay 16th
Orange (14) – Maja Robertson 2nd
Yellow (17) – Megan Brown 3rd, Calum Robertson 8th
