SOL 3, 2017Drumlanrig Woods, 23 April
There was a good ESOC turnout for the third event in this year’s Scottish Orienteering League, on a glorious spring day.
Drumlanrig Woods are part of the estate of Drumlanrig Castle, near Thornhill in Dumfriesshire, and the approach to the parking was along the main drive with good views of the imposing castle. There were two distinct types of terrain: hilly mixed woodland, and open parkland on the lower ground. The woodland had some fine trees and bluebell glades, but was rough in places with patches of windblow, and steep-sided valleys. The parkland by the River Nith was gently undulating and the last couple of kilometres of the longer courses looped around past the parking area. The weather was sunny and warm.
ESOC results in the top half for their course were:
Brown (17 competitors) – Walter Clark 4th
Short Brown (15) – Mark Wood 7th
Blue (46) – Keith Brown 17th, Helena Nolan 22nd=
