Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOL 5 - 2012Errochty, 23 September

The fifth event in the 2012 Scottish Orienteering League was held in conjunction with the Senior Home International individual event, organised by STAG.

Errochty is part of Tay Forest Park, north of Loch Tummel, near Pitlochry. It’s mostly pine forest, and some natural woodland, all on a hillside with plenty of rock features and some intricate contours in places. Underfoot conditions were quite wet, though the weather was fine and dry.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (30 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 7th
Short Brown (48) – Claire Ward 4th, Andrew Dalgleish 13th, Mike Stewart 22nd
Blue (57) – Peter O’Hara 14th, Heather Thomson 20th, Crawford Lindsay 26th
Short Blue (34) – Roger Scrutton 6th, Alastair Lessells 10th, Ian Pyrah 14th
Green (39) – Bill Stevenson 14th
Short Green (19) – Jim Clark 9th, Janet Clark 10th

Congratulations to Claire Ward, who won the W21 class for the Scottish team at the SHI Individual. Jo Stevenson, Andrew Lindsay and Rona Lindsay were also in the Scottish team (Rona unfortunately had a bad cold and walked much of her course). Scotland won the competition, with a convincing lead in both the individual and the relay event, held the previous day at Craig a’ Barns.

Full results, and more details including a report of the SHI competition, are available on the SHI / SOL5 results page of the SOA website.
Some photos from the event are now available in the ESOC Gallery.
