SoSOL 2, 2022North Pentlands, 6 March
This event was organised by ESOC, and many ESOC members were busy helping as well as competing, but they still had some great results.
ESOC hosted this South of Scotland Orienteering League event. The event parking was just to the south of the Edinburgh City Bypass, accessed from Dreghorn Link, with a good view of the competition area. There were 2 starts – there was a long walk to the far start, used by the longer courses, while the junior start was nearer. Courses then snaked through the hills to the finish near Chuckie Knowe, and there were some very long legs on the longest courses. The terrain was mostly open tussocky moorland, enlivened by complex contours, crags, marshes, and fences, plus areas of gorse and mixed woodland lower down. There are paths and tracks throughout the area.
The weather was lovely, with sunshine most of the day, and underfoot conditions were good, though muddy in places following recent poor weather.
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Brown (10 competitors) – Vicente Lopez Sanchez 3rd, Katrina McLeod 5th
Blue (33) – Walter Clark 9th, Terry Johnstone 15th, Crawford Lindsay 17th
