Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL1 – 2013North Pentlands, 10 November

The first South of Scotland Orienteering League event of the 2013/14 season was organised by ESOC. Many came to help, and there were plenty of good ESOC results.

This was the second day of the Edinburgh Extravaganza weekend. The assembly area was just south of the City Bypass, and there was a high start to reduce the amount of climb on the courses. Most of the area is the open tussocky slopes of the Pentlands, with some mixed woodland lower down, and plenty of tracks. Hazards included several fences to cross, lots of gorse in places, and some marshes. The weather was chilly - there had been a hard frost, which lingered on the north-facing slopes - but it was sunny and clear, with fantastic views over the city and beyond.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Blue (57) – Keith Brown 10th, Crawford Lindsay 18th, Finlay Ross 20th, Heather Thomson 22nd, Roger Garnett 26th=
Green (53) – Margaret Dalgleish 13th, Mary Williams 14th, Rachel Fawthrop 15th, Ian Pyrah 21st=, Bill Stevenson 21st=, Judy Bell 25th, Anne Stevenson 26th, Sally Lindsay 27th
Light Green (16) – Kerry Wood 1st, Steve Clayton 5th, Ben Brown 6th
Orange (13) – Rachel Brown 1st, Anne Thom 5th
White (11) – Adam Clark 1st, Megan Brown 5th

Full results from the event are available in the 2013 ESOC Results Archive.
