SoSOL1 – 2014/15Loch Ordie, 21 September
The first South of Scotland Orienteering League event of the 2014/15 season was organised by Tayside Orienteers, and there were some excellent ESOC results.
Loch Ordie was last used for the final day of the Scottish 6 Days in 2009. It’s near Dunkeld, a few miles north of the previous week’s event at Craig a Barns (the terrain was advertised as being similar, but without the forest). It is open moorland terrain, quite hilly, with plenty of crags and parallel ridges and marshes, plus lots of heather which made for slow going at times. There was a high start, to minimise climb on the courses, giving good views of beautiful scenery along the Tay valley and to surrounding hills. The weather was glorious – sunny and warm.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (16 competitors) – Claire Ward 5th, Andrew Lindsay 6th
Blue (19) – Crawford Lindsay 4th, Keith Brown 6th, Roger Garnett 8th
Green (21) – Alastair Lessells 3rd, Finlay Ross 6th, Margaret Dalgleish 7th
Short Green (7) – Les Dalgleish 1st, Jim Clark 2nd
Light Green (6) – Ben Brown 3rd
Orange (7) – Rachel Brown 1st
White (5) – Megan Brown 1st
