SOUL 3 - 2013Erskine, 1 June

The third Scottish Orienteering Urban League event of the year was organised by Clydeside Orienteers, in Erskine, west of Glasgow, and was an excellent event with some good results from ESOC runners.

Many ESOC urban enthusiasts had been to a previous event in Erskine in 2011. This time the event centre was in the same place, at Erskine Sports Centre, but the competition area was to the west, on a new map of Bargarran and North Barr, which lived up to expectations.
Courses led through a maze of small pathways between the houses, with many similar features, so concentration was crucial. There were some open areas, school grounds and unexpectedly wild parts too. All courses were well-planned, and challenging all the way through. The weather was mostly fine, with a couple of showers, and the grassy areas were fairly dry underfoot.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
M Open (10 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 4th
M Veteran (16) – Mark Wood 4th
M SuperVet (9) – Crawford Lindsay 3rd
M UltraVet (7) – Ian Pyrah 3rd, Roger Scrutton 4th
M Young Juniors (3) – Ben Brown 1st
W Open (7) – Heather Thomson 2nd, Rona Lindsay 3rd
W SuperVet (10) – Sally Lindsay 2nd, Margaret Dalgleish 5th
W UltraVet (4) – Katy Lessells 2nd
W Juniors (1) – Kerry Wood 1st
