SOUL 3, 2022Dumbarton, Saturday 5 March
The third Scottish Orienteering Urban League event of 2022 was hosted by Clydeside Orienteers, on a glorious spring day.
Dumbarton is on the north side of the Clyde estuary, west of Glasgow, at the confluence of the River Leven and the Clyde. The Start was in Levengrove Park, a large and attractive park on the south side of the River Leven, with many interesting features and signs explaining its history. This was a new map (partly produced by ESOC member Craig Nolan). The varied urban terrain included old and new buildings in an industrial estate, housing developments and the town centre, as well as the park itself. Well-planned courses crossed the river into the town centre, and the longest ones ventured north of the railway line via underpasses.
It was a beautiful day - sunny and clear, with good views across the Clyde. Unfortunately there was a low entry for this event, but those who were there thought it was worth the journey.
ESOC results in the top half:
W Supervet (10 competitors) – Alison Cunningham 1st, Helena Nolan 2nd
M Ultravet (8) – Crawford Lindsay 2nd
W Ultravet (7) – Sally Lindsay 2nd, Margaret Dalgleish 3rd
