Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOUL 5 / SoSOL 2 - 2012Livingston, 6/7 October

There was a great ESOC turnout for Interløpers’ double header weekend in Livingston, in beautiful autumn weather, with some excellent results.

The 5th event in the 2012 Scottish Orienteering Urban League was on Saturday 6 October, amongst the complicated housing developments of Dedridge. There was plenty of route choice along the alleyways between the houses, with a mix of short and long legs, as well as some muddy woodland on the longer courses, and everyone seemed to enjoy the event.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
M Open (18 competitors) - Andrew Dalgleish 2nd, Andrew Lindsay 3rd, Alistair Hindle 4th
W Open (9) – Heather Thomson 1st
M Vet (14) – Mark Wood 3rd
M SuperVet (13) – Martin Caldwell 3rd, Roger Scrutton 4th, Les Dalgleish 7th
W Vet (10) – Alison Cunningham 5th
W SuperVet (9) – Janice Nisbet 1st, Sally Lindsay 2nd
W UltraVet (2) – Eleanor Pyrah 1st
M12- (5) – Ben Brown 3rd
W12- (2) – Kerry Wood 1st

The 2nd event in the new season’s South of Scotland Orienteering League was held the next day, at Calder Wood, on the SE side of Livingston. This country park has a mix of open grassland and wooded areas, with two rivers running through it in deep valleys. The area between the rivers is quite flat, but the valley sides are very steep. It was muddy and slippery, and there was a lot of challenging vegetation to fight through, so times were longer than usual, and some choice language was used by many competitors on finishing!

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (21 competitors) – Craig Nolan 6th, Andrew Lindsay 7th, Alistair Hindle 9th, Tyler Morrison 10th
Blue (43) – Gavin Williams 17th
Green (34) – Sally Lindsay 5th, Anne Stevenson 10th, Eleanor Pyrah 12th, Simon Firth 14th
Orange (12) – Ben Brown 4th
Yellow (2) – Rachel Brown 1st
White (6) – Megan Brown 3rd

Full results for both events are available on the Interløpers website.
