Speyside Triple Event weekend 201018/19 September

Some ESOC members enjoyed 3 very different events on Speyside.

Several ESOC members made a weekend of it and had a great time, despite persistent rain - luckily it wasn’t too heavy, but the vegetation was very wet throughout.

First, on the morning of Saturday 18 September, there was an urban race at Aberlour, organised by Moravian Orienteers. This was a new map, covering not just the village but also some steep wooded areas and parkland, offering varied courses. Registration was at Speyside High School, with some excellent cakes on sale afterwards.
On the long course, Andrew Lindsay was 5th, Crawford Lindsay 9th, Rona Lindsay 10th and Sally Lindsay 18th.

Then it was off to Loch Vaa, near Boat of Garten, for a colour coded event on Saturday afternoon, organised by BASOC. Loch Vaa’s a beautiful area, with wooded moraine giving constant challenges. The blue and brown courses offered an opportunity to “Run The Line”, with long legs and few controls, all in re-entrants.
ESOC results:
Yellow – Heidi & Jenny Ross 3rd
Green – Finlay Ross 7th, Sally Lindsay 11th, Eleanor Pyrah 16th
Blue – Andrew Lindsay 6th, Rona Lindsay 7th, Ian Pyrah 12th, Crawford Lindsay 15th

On Sunday 19 September, it was INVOC’s turn, with another colour-coded event at Revack Estate, near Grantown-on-Spey. This is more hilly, and most courses had lots of climb. Courses covered a wide variety of terrain in mostly coniferous forest, with plenty of features.
ESOC results:
Light Green – Clare Williams 6th
Green – Ian Pyrah 8th, Sally Lindsay 18th, Eleanor Pyrah 19th
Blue – Rona Lindsay 8th, Andrew Lindsay 9th, Finlay Ross 18th
Brown – Crawford Lindsay 16th
