SSOF 2011Scone Palace, 22 June

Success for ESOC juniors at the Scottish Schools’ Orienteering Festival, at Scone Palace near Perth.

12 ESOC juniors competed at the annual Scottish Schools event, which had been postponed from 3 June due to storm damage. Schools from all over Scotland were represented, with over 300 schoolchildren attending, giving a lively atmosphere. There are separate classes for boys and girls, based on academic year, with entrants from P5 upwards. In each class, the top 3 results for the same school are totalled to give the team score. The weather was cloudy but bright, although it was a little wet underfoot in places, following recent rain. Picnics on the grass were followed by a prompt prizegiving, allowing everyone to set off in good time for the journey home.

ESOC juniors did well in several classes:
P5/6 girls – Kerry Wood 2nd, Rachel Brown 7th
S5/6 girls – Rona Lindsay 1st
P5/6 boys – Ben Brown 16th, Peter Fawthrop 39th,
Adam McGregor mp (better luck next time!)
P7 boys – Jamie Fawthrop 9th, Euan Mackay 10th
S3 boys – Gavin Williams 6th
His team (Stewart’s Melville College) won this class
S4 boys – Craig Nolan 3rd, Adam Hunter 9th
Their team (Currie High School) came 2nd
S5/6 boys – Andrew Lindsay 1st

See the Scottish Schools Orienteering Association website for full results and other information about the event.
