Tinto Twin 2014Carmichael Hill / Happendon Wood, 25/26 October
There were plenty of trophies for ESOC members at the 27th Tinto Twin competition.
The Tinto Twin is an annual 2-day competition, with a night event on Saturday, followed by a day event on Sunday, and the times are combined in the overall results. This year, both events were Middle Distance. The night event was at Carmichael Hill, in the northern part of the Carmichael Estate, near Biggar, and the day event was at Happendon Wood, beside the M74 a little further to the SW.
For Saturday’s Night Event, it was very windy with a little rain, though quite mild. Courses started on the open hillside, visiting various small holes in the ground before dropping to the woodland where there were some tricky controls amongst some patches of rather thick vegetation. All enjoyed soup and socialising afterwards in the farmhouse
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Brown (10 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 1st, Claire Ward 4th
Blue (13) – Mark Wood 3rd, Rona Lindsay 5th, Keith Brown 7th
Light Blue (16) – Roger Garnett 3rd, Crawford Lindsay 4th
Green (9) – Margaret Dalgleish 1st, Sally Lindsay 3rd, Ian Pyrah 4th
Orange (6) – Rachel Brown 3rd
Sunday’s Day Event was based in the Cairn Lodge Service Station, between junctions 11 and 12 on the M74, and the indoor facilities were very welcome. It was quite wet and windy much of the time, and very wet underfoot. The terrain was mixed woodland with some complicated vegetation, open areas and birch scrub, gently undulating, and very vague in places.
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Brown (15 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 4th
Blue (23) – Mark Wood 4th, Rona Lindsay 5th, Mark Rowe 10th, Helena Nolan 11th, Keith Brown 12th
Light Blue (32) – Alastair Lessells 4th, Crawford Lindsay 5th, Roger Garnett 6th, Dave Kershaw 13th, Roger Scrutton 14th
Green (18) – Ian Pyrah 1st, Sally Lindsay 4th, Eleanor Pyrah 6th, Margaret Dalgleish 9th
Light Green (7) – Kerry Wood 2nd
The overall Tinto Twin competition is decided by standard age class, and the ESOC winners were:
Andrew Lindsay (Men’s Open), Mark Wood (M45), Keith Brown (M50), Roger Garnett (M60), Jim Clark (M75), Rachel Brown (W12), Kerry Wood (W14), Rona Lindsay (Women’s Open), Sally Lindsay (W55), Margaret Dalgleish (W60), Eleanor Pyrah (W70).
