World Schools Selection Races, 2016Faskally, 28 August

3 ESOC juniors have qualified for the Scottish team at the 2017 World Schools championships – congratulations to all!

The 2017 World Schools Championships Orienteering (WSCO) event will be held in Palermo, Sicily, on 22-28 April.
The selection races for the Scotland team were held at Faskally Wood, Pitlochry, on Sunday 28 August. This is a small, hilly area of mixed woodland with many rock features and a network of paths and tracks. The start and finish were close to the main Forestry Commission car park; the courses looped round the southern end of the map, with a spectator control near the finish location, but early on in the course. Courses were quite tough, so there were some long times, and the summer vegetation also slowed the runners down. The weather was warm, with a few spots of rain. Everyone seemed to enjoy the courses and the qualifiers are now looking forward to Sicily.

This event was open to all students who participated in the Scottish Schools’ Orienteering Festival in June. There were 4 classes: M1 (Senior Boys), M2 (Junior Boys), W1 (Senior Girls) and W2 (Junior Girls). Three ESOC juniors qualified for the Scottish Select Team:
Ben Brown – M1
Kerry Wood – W1
Rachel Brown – W2
