Permanent Orienteering Courses

In or near Edinburgh

ESOC has seven permanent orienteering courses in and around Edinburgh. For more information about each area, please see the relevant entry on the Maps page, which also includes details on how to access Virtual Orienteering Courses using the permanent posts. 

These are all suitable for families or individuals to walk, jog or run.  To obtain a pdf version of your chosen permanent course map and instructions to print at home, or to get a permanent course pack (containing a waterproof map and a copy of the instructions) sent to you by post, please contact Janet Clark via email to

ESOC is a charity and we ask that you make a suitable donation to the club in exchange for the map pack. Details of how to make a donation will be sent to you by email. 

  

Blackford Hill and The Hermitage

Near: Morningside

Starting from The Hermitage of Braid Visitor Centre, 69a Braid Road, EH10 6JF.

Bonaly

Near: Colinton

Starting at the upper car park for Bonaly Country Park, which is south of the City Bypass, at the end of Bonaly Road and beyond the Scout Centre.

Cammo Estate

Near: Barnton

Starting from The Lodge at the end of Cammo Road, off the A90, a short distance west of Barnton junction.

Castlelaw

Near: Edinburgh

Three miles south of the City Bypass (Lothianburn Junction), off the A702. A brown signpost indicates “Castlelaw Hill Fort”.

Corstorphine Hill

Near: Corstorphine / Davidson’s Mains

Starting from Clermiston Road North or Cairnmuir Road, between the A8 (Corstorphine Road) and the A90 (Queensferry Road).

Hillend

Near: Edinburgh

Just south of the City Bypass (Lothianburn Junction); off the A702 at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre, starting from the upper car park.

Hopetoun House

Near: South Queensferry

Off the A904, one mile west of South Queensferry.
