Pollok Country Park, Saturday 10 February
Pollok Country Park is in the SW of Glasgow, and the event centre was at Lochinch Sports Pavilion, on the west side of the park. The terrain includes deciduous woodland, open parkland and fields, with many tracks and paths, on low hills. There was a brand new map, at 1:7,500 scale, and the courses looped around the area, giving plenty of route choice.
It was very muddy underfoot (more than ankle-deep in places) and unfortunately started raining just before the first starts, so everyone got wet. The lounge area of the pavilion was a very warm and comfortable place for post-race discussions before the prize-giving, especially since there were cakes and hot drinks available.
This was STAG’s 600th event, and participants were all given a celebratory sticker.
There were 8 class winners from ESOC:
Ben Brown, M18
Keith Brown, M55
Les Dalgleish, M65
Rona Lindsay, W21
Heather Thomson, W40
Sally Lindsay, W60
Margaret Dalgleish, W65
Eleanor Pyrah, W70
Other ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Course 1 (8 competitors) – Craig Nolan 4th (4th in M21)
Course 3 (22) – Crawford Lindsay 5th (3rd in M60), Mark Wood 6th (1st in Open 3)
Course 5 (22) – Rachel Brown 3rd (3rd in W16), Ian Pyrah 7th (2nd in M70)
Course 6 (2) – Megan Brown 1st (1st Novice)
