Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOL 1, 2019

Birsemore Hill, 24 February

Birsemore Hill is south of Aboyne, on Deeside, and is a varied technical area, with vague contours on the top of the hill, and intricate areas on the steep northern slopes, where there are a lot of rock features. The lowest parts, near the finish, had seen some recent forestry work and were rough underfoot. The event centre was Aboyne Community Centre, which was a great base, providing indoor facilities including hot drinks and a cake stall. There was a long walk from here to the start and finish. The weather was fine and very mild.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
  Brown (39 competitors) – Duncan Robertson 3rd
  Blue (95) – Keith Brown 45th, Finlay Ross 47th
Short Blue (46) – Peter Halling 7th, Roger Garnett 10th, Juliette Maire 21st, Les Dalgleish 22nd
Green (85) – Rachel Brown 7th, Alison Cunningham 21st, Alastair Lessells 24th, Roger Scrutton 27th, Sally Lindsay 31st
Short Green (52) – Janice Nisbet 4th, Anne Stevenson 11th, Margaret Dalgleish 16th, Eleanor Pyrah 19th, Ian Pyrah 26th
  Light Green (27) – Maja Robertson 3rd
  Yellow (17) – Calum Robertson 4th

Full results and other event information are available on the SOL 1 event page of the MAROC website.

Details of all the events in this year’s Scottish Orienteering League are on the SOL page of the Scottish Orienteering Association website.

This event was the second in the 2019 UK Orienteering League. More details about this league are on the UK Orienteering League page of the British Orienteering website. ESOC is currently lying 2nd in the club league, but will inevitably move down as the year progresses and more events take place further south! The score for each club is calculated automatically from the 15 best club members' scores (across various age class groups) - so the club members whose scores are included may change with each event.
