Tweedbank / Melrose, 25 February
Tweedbank is in the Borders, between Galashiels and Melrose, and the event centre for SOUL 3 was at Tweedbank Sports Complex.
For juniors, both races took place at Tweedbank, with the first race around the sports complex. Seniors had a short walk to Melrose for the first race, whose start was on the west side of the town. Courses swiftly led into the historic town centre, along many small passageways amongst the old buildings, before returning west to the finish amongst more modern housing.
The Tweedbank second race courses zig-zagged through confusing pathways and courtyards of the modern residential area, as well as surrounding parkland and around a small loch, with rapid route choice needed.
Alison Cunningham commented, "Excellent courses by Kirstin in two good locations. A beautiful cold, blue sky day and the 2km walk to the Melrose sprint was a lovely path alongside the River Tweed. Both races were short and fast with a complex housing area in Tweedbank providing more of a route choice challenge compared to Melrose. Perhaps two route choice 'mistakes' on my part, and every second counted! A lovely day out in the Borders!"
