New to Orienteering?
Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport which involves navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass.
The aim is to navigate between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.
It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can go at your own pace.

STAG Glasgow City Race weekendGlasgow Caledonian Uni, Kelvingrove Park, City Centre
Glasgow hosted the first of the "Euro City Race Tour" series last weekend, combined with some head-scratching indoor O at Glasgow university, and a WOC-relevant sprint (relay) at Kelvingrove Park. ESOC members were delighted to don their skimpiest racing vests and shorts, safe in the knowledge that this jungle was urban. ESOC president Walter Clark showed that age is no barrier in Friday's indoor sprint long race as he secured a 5th place. Sibling duo Ben & Megan Brown then came a close second in Saturday's 2-person Sprint Relay alongside 4 wins in the Individual Sprint (Emma Daley, Rebecca Daley, Helena Nolan and Luigi Lerose). Finally, at Sunday's eponymous City Race, we scored a trio of Silvers courtesy of Alexis Gow, Calum Robertson and Helena Nolan. Many thanks to the STAG organisers for yet again doing a sterling job putting on some great events with a great atmosphere.

British Middle Champs + Northern Champs 2024Danefield / Kilnsey South, 27-28 April
A double-header Yorkshire weekend didn't stint on orienteering riches, offering bouldery forest fun at the British Middle Championships at Danefield followed by challenging exposed moorland for the Northern Champs at Kilnsey South. ESOC came away with 2 shiny Silver medals for Janice and Eleanor in W70 and W80, a frustrated 4th for Megan in W16, and plenty of smiles from the whole ESOC contingent!
Scottish Middle Champs + SOL 2, 2024Hill of Alyth & Balfour, 21-22 April
A double weekend saw relieved Scottish orienteers returning to home terrain with such comments as "my O shoes are now clean of mud from the British" and "proper technical orienteering". At Saturday's Middle Championships event, ESOC runners achieved some great results including 2 Golds, 3 Silvers, and 4 Bronzes.
April Social 2024Edinburgh, New Town, Tuesday, 16th April
Matt Ball writes:
It was a lovely evening and perfect for running in North Edinburgh (I discovered it was pouring with rain in south Edinburgh on my cycle home!) for the April social. People could again choose between an orienteering and a TURF event. For those of us orienteering we started off the evening outside the The Cumberland Bar in the New Town.
About Us
We organise a regular programme of local orienteering events, regular junior coaching sessions, weekly club training for members and also club socials. In addition, we organise larger orienteering events at regional and national level, some of which are further afield in Scotland. Why not come and join us?
