April Social 2015Monday 30 March
The "April" social was great, despite the rain!
Fran and Malcolm very kindly offered to host this social from their home in Gilmerton, and 10 runners turned out on a very wet Monday evening to run a score event around fire hydrant signs. Malcolm had cleverly planned a simple idea to visit as many control sites in 45 or 60 minutes as possible and record the lower number from the yellow fire hydrant sign which was found there. Addition of these numbers gave a ‘pot luck’ sum and the fun was that you didn’t know whether the number on the sign was going to be 1 or 20 or anything in between. The addition of heavy rain added to the fun, with the challenge being to keep the map dry enough to write on, assuming that the pen/pencil continued to write in the wet! It was also useful not to ‘dissolve’ the map before finding the house to return to! In the 45 minute score, Alison (198), Rachel (161) and Ewart (99) were the top scorers; in the 60 minute score there was a problem with damp and adding up, and final scores changed a few times! Andrew and Martin both achieved scores around 250 and Eleanor was third (110). Chocolate egg prizes as it’s Easter time!
Fran had laid on a super buffet, and with the addition of 7 late arrivals, we all enjoyed the food and chat. Many thanks to Fran and Malcolm for hosting the evening - it was a lot of fun and a great idea for a street run, although a little less rain might have been preferable!
