October Social 2026Tuesday 27th October, Astley Ainslie
For the October social we were treated to a SPOOKY ESOC social at Astley Ainslie, courtesy of Anna and Ingrid Edenbrandt. The information given was to bring something with you, to deter any spooks that may be out to get you. This gave me the opportunity to bring along my lightsaber to defend myself, which, those who came, would agree I was delighted with!
The challenge was to go around as many of the short courses (four in total) as you wanted. The problem with this was that most of the map was hidden, which introduced various levels of difficulty. On my first course I had to go back to the start to try again.
Some juniors had got into the spirit of Halloween and dressed up, we even had a traitor in our midst who was intent on murdering people!!!
It was a fun evening.
Thanks to Helena for the above report. On the Turfing side Christmas2 reports:
Yesterday's event was a spooky night turf around Astley Ainslie, brilliantly planned by ElsieSpanner. Having cycled through the competition area a number of times I felt relatively confident I knew the hospital grounds - turns out I didn't! I clambered along a riverside holding onto a tree and hoping not to inadvertently drop my phone into said river, then found myself running through woodland paths trapped by walls either side, suddenly re-appearing back into civilisation. The number of zones was just right to keep you focused on keeping an eye on where all the other turfers were to make sure you didn't get blocked. Close competition at the top between Christmas2, RapidFire and Sjami44 but pleased to say I won the coveted Percy pig prize!
