Keen Orienteers and Turfers all met up in the Bonnington area of North Edinburgh for a night of activity, it was dry and warmish to start with but the temperature descended rapidly during the event and many came back seeking the warmth of the local hostelry in double quick time!
The orienteering consisted of a photo O; 42 control points on the map, with 42 photos on the reverse. All photos were taken at the control site. Simply match the control up with the photo once you were there to earn a 100 points per correctly matched control/photo, all inside the usual 60 minutes of course. Competitors quickly spread far and wide, with the overall winner being Vicente who very impressively gained the maximum score of 4,200 with 3 minutes to spare, 2nd was Ewan on 3,600, coming home right on the buzzer and 3rd was Rachael on 3,400 but with 5 minutes left (could a further few controls have been gained perhaps?). Leading junior was Anna who scored 2,900 and who was very adept at matching up the photos - far better than your reported in fact!
On the Turfing side, 9 competitors took on the challenge on a mixture of both bikes and by foot. Cyclist JammyDognut continued his impressive form in this format and held onto the lead from the 10th minute onwards, with 2nd being Dangermous on a welcome Turf visit from Glasgow. 3rd place was sjami44 and in 4th was MuttsCycles on his fat bike even though the terrain was mainly cycle paths, roads and tarmac'd paths.

MuttsCycles even did an event GoPro and you can watch all the action here: https://youtu.be/opuTEG6GGQw?si=_uCdYFhurvNV7f1W
After the strenuous activity we retired to the warm surrounds of Teuchters Landing in Leith. Plenty of chat was had, prizes were given out and the highlights was undoubtedly having the honour of celebrating 85 years to the ESOC legend that is Janet. A specially designed birthday cake was commissioned for the occasion and everyone went home on a cake filled stomach! Many congratulations Janet!
