Burns Night Social - 2014Monday 3 February

As usual, a very enjoyable evening with a great turnout of ESOC members.

Kirsteen and Dave very kindly agreed to host this years Burns Supper social and we all enjoyed an excellent evening of street O, traditional Burns and lots of socialising.

Over 40 turned out on a dry and pleasant evening and many set out on Dave’s 45 or 60 minute street score. From library opening hours to golf club pro telephone number to famous general's residence…. - all the fun of a treasure hunt with bonus of points achieved. The route choice was all important in order to try and pick up the bigger scorers, but penalties for late return had to be taken into account. The long course winner was Crawford with Rob 2nd and Martin 3rd, and the short course winner was myself with Rona 2nd and Alastair 3rd.

Meanwhile supper was cooking….

With Kirsteen at the helm, the ladies Monday runners combined efforts to peel, chop and mash and they provided a sumptuous Burns supper with traditional haggis, neeps, clapshot and tatties followed by a wonderful choice of puds, biscuits and cheese. Lots (and lots) of delicious food - brilliant and many thanks! And with Ian celebrating a ‘big’ birthday the next day, we were treated to a birthday cake - all our best wishes go to him.

Peter’s ‘address to the haggis’ was recited with great style and was very entertaining - our many thanks to him. And our thanks to Bill for fiddling the haggis in and enhancing the Scottish feel of the night.

Thank you to everyone involved but especially to Kirsteen and Dave for hosting the evening.
