Burns Night Social - 2016Monday 8 February

We enjoyed a fantastic street-o from Brian, followed by a belated Burns celebration.

After the weekend soakings at the Night Champs and South Queensferry the street-O element of the Burns Social was thankfully dry. In the form of a score, from Meggetland in the west to Kings Buildings in the east, there were no less than forty controls ranged right across the map. No-one could possibly have visited them all. Running from Janice's home in Churchill those, particularly on the long course, really had to decide early on whether to head east or west. There was one single fifty pointer, pretty much as far from the start as you could get. This was up in the clouds at the Observatory, and amazingly three folk made the ascent. Well done to Martin Caldwell, Alison Cunningham and Mark Rowe; they clearly had wings. Answers to be filled in for each control visited, questions were along the lines of:
Steel footbridge, how many decorative steel balls? (Eight - on footbridge over the railway at Morningside)
What happens tonight at 20.10? (The Big Short - film at the Dominion)
Undersized green vessel. Name, or short description? (Nola's Ark - pint sized barge on the canal)

The long course turned out to be a very close run thing with the top three scorers arriving back virtually bang on the deadline. Everyone seemed very happy with the event and were soon lured inside by the prospect of the great spread awaiting.

Results were:

Long course - first Andrew Dalgleish, 440 points, second Martin Caldwell, 430 points, third Alison Cunningham, 410 points.
Short course - first Margaret Dalgleish, second Sally Lindsay, third Ewart Scott.
