Saturday saw the Junior Home International individual races at Edinchip Estate near Lochearnhead, followed by SOL 5, while Sunday at Lochan Spling saw JHI relays and a one person spectator relay. ESOC were represented by Megan Brown and Emma Daley, both representing Scotland in the JHI races and contributing to the Scotland win.

Edinchip Estate promised mature woodland, marshy open and complex contour detail. The longer courses visited an open moorland area, which was a contrast. The clouds were across and the rain coming down as the juniors started, but it cleared up later on. The JHI individual races took place first, with Emma coming in 4th (W14). This position (top 2 from each nation) counted as part of the overall Scotland result.

A few ESOC members took part in the Scottish Orienteering League event that followed, with notable placings for Margaret, Mary and junior Kirsten.

Robert Wyllie says:

This was an impressively organised event. The weather was kind to us throughout - although rain occasionally looked as though it might arrive, it never really came to anything. The area provided a real mix of terrain, from open runnable ground to steep hills and some very memorable patches of bog. Those of us heading up the hill were rewarded with some lovely views. For me it was more than a little nerve-shredding coming down the hill! All in all, it was a strong challenge but one that gave a real sense of achievement getting to the finish.

On Sunday, the JHI relays at Lochan Spling near Aberfoyle had blue skies and sunshine. Megan and Emma were each in different teams of girls. The teams were made up of 1 each of M/W14 : M/W16 : M/W18. The 16s go first then the 14s and finally the 18s. Only Ben and Keith took part in the one person relay - 3 short gaffled courses all undertaken by the same runner.
