Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

ESOC at the 2014 SHIsScotland, 18/19 October

ESOC orienteers were again in the victorious Scotland team at the Senior Home International.

Congratulations to Scotland, who won the Senior Home Internationals for the fourth year in succession. The event was held in conjunction with the second weekend of Race the Castles, with the individual at Balmoral and the relays at Forvie.

ESOC had two representatives in the Scotland team, Rona Lindsay and Claire Ward. Claire won the individual for Scotland in W21, in a strong women’s elite field. The terrain at Balmoral was quite rough underfoot, with large areas of mossy scree and also windthrow in places. At Forvie the next day, times were longer than usual for a relay, as the going was rough underfoot and very wet in places. There was an excellent spectator control giving a view from the finish arena and the weather was kind. Claire was in the women’s Scotland 1 team, on second leg, and Rona was in the Scotland 2 team, on first leg. The relay teams have one 20 and two 21s, running in any order. Scotland 1 and 2 had their W20s on first leg and finished in 3rd and 4th place behind two strong English teams. Having won the individual day, Scotland needed solid relay runs to guarantee overall victory and this is what duly happened.
