ESOC at the 2021 JHISurrey, 9/10 October
Rachel Brown was a key member of the Scotland team at the Junior Home International.
The Home Internationals are annual competitions between selected teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with an individual event and a relay over a weekend, plus a social event on the Saturday evening. There are 3 different competitions: the Junior Home International (JHI) for M/W14-18, the Senior Home International (SHI) for M/W20-21, and the Veteran Home International (VHI) for M/W35-65.
The 2021 JHI competition took place near Haslemere in Surrey, organised by South London Orienteers. The individual race on Saturday was at the Devil’s Punchbowl, and the relays on Sunday were on Bramshott Common. Rachel Brown (W18) was in the Scotland team. In the individual event, Rachel won her class convincingly, and in the Girls relay, she ran 3rd leg for the Scotland 1 team, gaining 6 minutes on her leg, and bringing the team home in first place. Well done Rachel!
Scotland won both the Boys and Girls relays, but unfortunately this was not enough to overtake the lead that England had after the Individual event, so England won overall.
