ESOC at the 2021 JIRCsSouth Gare, 25/26 September
Two ESOC juniors were in the Scotland team at the Junior Inter Regional Championships in North Yorkshire.
Rachel Brown (W18) and Maja Robertson (W16) were in the Scottish team at the 2021 Junior Inter-Regional Championships. The JIRCs weekend is an annual competition between juniors from all the UK regions.
The 2021 JIRCs event was held at South Gare, Redcar, on the North Yorkshire coast, and was organised by Cleveland Orienteering Klub. South Gare is an artificial spit of land created in the 19th Century, with sand dunes and slag ridges giving a very technical area full of small hills, knolls, gullies and depressions.
The individual event was on Saturday, with the relay on Sunday, and both races used the same arena. In the individual event, Maja (recently returned from injury) came 14th in W16 and Rachel won W18.
In the relay, Maja came 10th on 1st leg in the "ScotJOS W4" team, who finished in 5th place, and Rachel came 4th on 3rd leg for the "ScotJOS W1" team, who finished in 3rd place.
Scotland won overall, with Yorkshire & Humberside in 2nd place and South West in 3rd place.
There’s a detailed report, with some photos, on the SOA website.
Full results, including the scores and Routegadget, are available on the JIRCs news item on the CLOK website.
Well done to everyone in the Scotland team, and also to ESOC’s Judy Bell, who played a large part in the weekend!
