European Junior Orienteering Championships 2020
ESOC Junior selected for international competition.
Junior Selection races were held on the August bank holiday weekend, in the southern Lake District. ESOC’s Rachel Brown had some excellent results. The races were:
• Friday 28 August – Sprint race, around Windermere, with a mix of forest and urban terrain. Rachel came 2nd in W18.
• Saturday 29 August – Long race, Graythwaite Estate, with a very long leg right across the map. Rachel was 1st W18.
• Sunday 30 August – Middle race, also at Graythwaite, with some intricate terrain. Rachel was 3rd W18.
Following this great performance, Rachel was selected for the GB team at the 2020 European Junior Orienteering Championships, due to take place in Salgótarján, Hungary, on 24-26 October.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 European Youth Orienteering Championships, normally held in early summer, was postponed to October, and then extended to include the Junior European Cup (competition classes for juniors up to 20), and renamed the European Junior Orienteering Championships.
Sadly, today it has been announced that the event cannot take place in October, because of increasing problems with the pandemic.
Commiserations to Rachel – hoping for better times ahead.
