Hair of the Dog Social - 2015Friday 2 January
A cold and snowy day, but still a good turnout of hardy ESOC members braved the weather to run around Corstorphine Hill and blow away the festive cobwebs.
Hair of the Dog Report
On a cold and snowy afternoon, it seems fitting that I sit down to write the report of the Hair of the Dog which was held on an equally cold and snowy day - Brrrrr!
Many thanks to Craig who had planned and organised a 'Fox hunt' around Corstorphine woods - a simple and clever concept which I hadn't come across before. 32 orienteering kites were placed at sites in the woods and Craig (the fox) walked twice around a marked 2.5km route through the woods. The object was to visit a kite then find Craig to ‘dib’ then find another kite before locating Craig again - and so on. As a low-key fun event, this worked brilliantly with lots of us hunting like a pack both the kites and Craig. Despite horizontal driving snow and remarkably slippy conditions, I think everyone had fun! Kirsten Strain was the ladies and overall winner, Rob Kelly and Andrew Dalgleish shared 2nd place and Rachel Brown was the Junior winner. Thank you also to Helena, Ronnie and Claire who all helped in organising the hunt!
The social, down in St Ninian's Hall in Corstorphine, was an opportunity to catch up with everyone after the Christmas break and enjoy soup, buffet and the opportunity to warm up! We enjoyed delicious soup from my soup volunteers - Fran, Eleanor and Maureen - many thanks to them! It wouldn’t be Hair of the Dog without the usual games and quizzes, and the competition really hots up with the ‘Teddy bear game’, closely fought to the last final with Jamie winning the junior trophy and Heather the senior and overall trophy.
