Jamie Stevenson Trophy 2022Moncreiffe Hill, 19 June
ESOC juniors had a great day out at the Jamie Stevenson Trophy event.
The Jamie Stevenson Trophy event is an annual Scottish inter-club junior competition, named after the ESOC honorary member (a former ESOC junior) who won a gold medal at the 2003 World Orienteering Championships in Switzerland. The 2022 JST event was at Moncreiffe Hill.
Moncreiffe Hill is near Bridge of Earn – it’s the hill on the right hand side of the M90 motorway when heading north. The south side of the hill has steep crags, and the northern side is gentler, with a mix of open and wooded land, and many paths. The assembly area was on the north side of the hill, with great views across the Tay to Kinnoull Hill above Perth. The weather was warm and sunny.
Over 100 juniors competed, from 12 different Scottish clubs, and the young but enthusiastic ESOC team had 19 members. There are Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Green courses, with separate classes for boys and girls on each. 100 points are awarded to the winner in each class, 99 points for 2nd place, 98 for 3rd place, and so on, then each club’s best 6 scores are added up to find their total.
FVO won the trophy, with 596 points. ESOC came 4th, with 578 points – this is our best result since 2014, although it's quite a tricky area, and the courses were reported to be challenging. Well done everyone!
ESOC’s counting scorers were:
Ben Davison-Ellis, Yellow Boys – 98 points
Calum Robertson, Light Green Boys – 97 points
William Atkinson, Orange Boys – 96 points
Errol Shave/Aster Lee, Yellow boys – 96 points
Jasmine Muir, Yellow Girls – 96 points
Charlotte Muir, Yellow Girls – 95 points
Full results are in the FVO results archive, and Routegadget is here.
This event was also Round 1 of the 2022 Scottish Junior Cup. Results from each race will count towards an overall league for each age class. Round 2 is on Sunday 4 September, at Grandtully (the Junior Inter- Area Individual competition).
