Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

July Social 2014Sunday 6 July

A fine afternoon on Cramond Island, even though the weather promised otherwise.

The tide was (of course) reliable on Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t, and quite a few people were put off by the forecast; also there were several counter-attractions and it was the middle of the school holidays..... It was a shame that none of the families or new members we hoped would be able to come managed to make it, but the old hands who braved the elements and the causeway were rewarded by a warm sunny afternoon on the rather gritty beach.

The more energetic did a little orienteering, much restricted by the rampant vegetation and the hordes of foreign tourists sharing the island. Everyone enjoyed a picnic on an assortment of portable BBQs, especially the toasted marshmallow/chocolate digestive biscuit sandwiches. The tide still looked far away as we made our way back, but there were lots of people still walking out, so hopefully none of them became benighted.
