June Social 2014 - Skyline RunMonday 2 June

ESOC members and friends enjoyed their Monday evening run in the Pentland Hills.

13 runners and 5 walkers took part in our annual Skyline run from Nine Mile Burn to Flotterstone and we were all treated to a super evening with great views, very little wind, dry underfoot and lots of hills! Measuring at just short of 10km for the run and with a height gain of some 550m this ‘run’ is quite an undertaking - especially after a weekend of running at the British (for many) and a long day at work (for some)! The long steady climb out of Nine Mile Burn seems to go on for a long way and culminates in the steep ascent of West Kip before a rather more ‘undulating’ route takes us over East Kip, South Black Hill, Scald Law, Carnethy Hill and Turnhouse Hill. Of course what goes up must come down and the grassy steep descent at the end of the run is a test for both the knees and the weary calf muscles! The walkers took a slighter shorter route which joined the skyline between Scald Law and Carnethy Hill and then followed the same return route to Flotterstone.

Supper followed in the Flotterstone Inn and we were joined by more club members for chat over a drink and lovely bar food. The Inn staff remarked that perhaps we could make this a monthly rather than annual event!

Well done to all that took part and it was lovely to be joined by our friends from Roxburgh Reivers and Interlopers.
