June Social 2015 - Skyline RunMonday 8 June

Our annual skyline run in the Pentlands was postponed, and took place on a much nicer night than the week before. Lots of ESOC people took part; it was a great night!

What a beautiful evening we had for the ESOC June skyline run! I love this run!

In contrast to the gales and rain on the scheduled date, we had a beautiful calm evening with wonderful views and superbly dry conditions. It was a pleasant surprise to finish the run with my new shoes looking as clean and dry as they had started!

About 20 runners and walkers enjoyed the Pentlands at their best, with the runners covering the 11km route from Nine Mile Burn back to Flotterstone and the walkers joining the route midway. The Flotterstone Inn was a welcome end point where we enjoyed good food and refreshments and good company!

For those who are not familiar with this ESOC run, the route from Nine Mile Burn back to Flotterstone is a really beautiful path which is well worth trying sometime as a walk or as a run. There is parking behind the row of houses on the South side of the A702 at Nine Mile Burn and the path is signposted through a gate at the East end of the parking. The path climbs steadily over Cap Law, then West and East Kip, South Black Hill, Scald Law, Carnethy Hill and finally Turnhouse Hill, before descending steeply to the Glencorse Burn and path back to the Rangers car park at Flotterstone. You will need 2 cars, or there is a public transport bus which connects the two via Penicuik. Take a map and wear suitable clothing!
